So in my final class for Relevant Church Life (Pastoral Epistles-1 Tim, 2 Tim, Titus) my instructor had some very interesting things to say about Rob Bell and his views of universalism. I've honestly never read the book "Velvet Elvis". I have read some of Blakes copy though and have read some interesting things. I do think some of the things he teaches are unique and viable. But where do we draw the line? Is it okay if we don't believe in the literal six day creation? Is everyone going to heaven? Are we still forgiven without accepting that forgiveness? What are your thoughts? Maybe we'll find out in his next book Jesus Wants to Save Christians: A Manifesto for the Church in Exile.

Chelle and I were talking last night. I am not sure that believing in a literal six day creation matters. The things that matter are the definites. Is Jesus the Way, the Truth, and the Light? Is there only one way to the father, through Jesus Christ? Did Jesus die and than come back to life three days later? Do you take your coffee with cream or black? These are the things that matter.
As far as your teachers comments: It is a very, very, arrogant position to take when you condemn someone to hell and call them a false prophet. The bottom line is that Rob Bell is ruffling religous feathers. Is everything that he teaches something that I agree with, nope! However, teaching that using any form of birth control is murder is quasi-biblical as well.
The lesson:
Stop being dogmatic....Love God, Love people, Love life, and rightly divide the Word. NO ONE has the right Theology. We have perceptions based on our journey. Through prayer and meditation God will lead us to believe what we believe. Rob Bell's yolk is community and the human condition. Unfortunatley, religious leaders want to tag him as humanistic. Your professor has a yolk of fear and repentance. He is tagged as religous and dogmatic. It is not fair to either. We are children of God, and there is enough hate in this world without us tearing each other apart.
Well said Buddy!
